At Seashells Nursery we pride ourselves on the quality of nutritious snacks and meals provided on a daily basis. All food is prepared and cooked on the premises by qualified staff employed in the nursery kitchen.
We encourage independence whenever possible. Examples of which are where the children (excluding the baby room) may choose and help prepare their own food for snack with supervision from a member of staff.
To ensure we meet the needs of the child, we request that all allergies and special dietary requirements are brought to the attention of staff at the time of enrolment. Should any health issues arise later, you are welcome to bring this to our attention at any time. Special dietary needs are catered for and alternatives to the set menu can be offered through discussion between parent/carers, the manager and cook.
Special Treats: If parent/carers wish to bring in cake for their child's birthday this can be supervised and distributed by staff. Please be aware that we will only accept cakes that are in a sealed, manufacturer's container. Unfortunately we are unable to distribute cakes around the nursery that are home made.
A typical nursery day includes...
Breakfast: Children can choose from a selection of the following from the trolley: Weetabix, Cheerios, Rice Crispies, Cornflakes, Shreddies & yoghurt. Also bread and toast are available with any of the following toppings: butter, jam, marmite, lemon curd.
Drinks available are: milk or water.
Staff are on hand to welcome parents/carers and their children. The children may choose from activities set out to welcome them.
Morning snack: Snack will vary throughout the week but examples of what we provide is as follows: Fresh fruit pieces, variety of cheeses both hard and soft, bread sticks, rice cakes, dips (houmous, sweet chilli, mango chutney, guacamole) crackers, vegetable crudites, pita bread, tortilla. At every snack time the children have the choice of either milk or water.
Lunch: The menu changes according to the season. Menus are planned on a weekly basis according to food sources available. We purchase the vast majority of our supplies from FareShare Kent. Fareshare are an organisation we work closely with as they tackle the twin issues of food waste and food poverty. The food they redistributed is fresh, quality and in date surplus direct from the food industry.
Afternoon Snack: As listed above in morning snack Tea: Again the tea menus are planned on a weekly basis and will offer the children a lighter alternative to lunch meals. For example sandwiches, scrambled egg, beans on toast, crumpets and homemade soup.
